I found out about the Very Asian Foundation while dipping into an article about a new series of cookbooks focussing in on Asian cuisines, the 'Very Asian' series spotlights 'different Asian cuisines and cultures, while stoking empathy and intercultural interest among families and kids'. (Canvas 8, Daniel Ian Comandante). I love it!

The idea was born out of a food-based racist comment directed at Korean-American journo Michelle Li, Li started up the Very Asian Foundation an 'organization whose mission is to shine a light on Asian experiences through advocacy and celebration'. One of their strands is to help create understanding through cooking. Their Very Asian cookbooks include some specific kid-friendly recipes and range from Korean food, Indian, Filipino, Vietnamese cuisines, Malaysian and Singaporean cooking. The latest book - close to my heart! - is A Very Asian Guide to Japanese Food, that features Japanese home cooking with both traditional and contemporary dishes.

A further dive into the Very Asian Foundation shows merch and an interest in creating a 'national campaign that helps libraries be more inclusive by donating Asian American youth literature to at-need libraries.' Is this something that could work for British-Asian youths? Comments welcome.
